The Pirate Bay DDoS Empty

PostThe Pirate Bay DDoS

The Pirate Bay, which is the most popular file-sharing website on the Internet, was shut down for part of the day on Wednesday. The site shut down in response to a DDoS attack.

The Pirate Bay was not available for several hours after the system shut itself down to improve its internal system, in order to fight a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. While this was apparently a temporary problem, Digital Journal cannot access the website this morning, which means that the attack is possibly continuing.

According to TorrentFreak, "The Pirate Bay team [said] they were dealing with a DDoS attack earlier and had to upgrade the 'pipes. The Pirate Bay team is aware of the issue and is working on a fix."
Users of the Swedish-based site are nervous, as another BitTorrent site, Demonoid, was also hit recently. There are rumors that Demonoid will be shut down for good. The website is hosted in Ukraine, and the government is said to be working with the U.S. to prevent the torrent site from re-launching.
Wednesday's DDoS attack on The Pirate Bay is the second in a relatively short period. The BBC reported that in May the Pirate Bay was down for more than 24 hours and the identity of the hacker wasn't known, although the Pirate Bay "had its suspicions." Digital Journal also reported on the story.
Despite this attempted blockade, the Pirate Bay has only seen its number of daily visitors increase. In May, the website received the highest number of hits ever.

TorrentFreak reported in March that the Pirate Bay had received a letter from the police, requesting personal details of users. The site said that it would not reveal that information.

This is yet another pointless step in the US's useless effort to quell piracy. Why don't they just stop wasting their money and realise that data should be free to everyone?

Because if you're in the employ of a corrupt government, and get paid by the FBI, you don't care how poor some people are. Chivalry is nothing to you. You will take food from a poor family of 4 to give to a rich fat scumbag that has more than enough for himself. That's what the FBI are. Or anyone that tries to take away our digital freedom.

Shouldn't be hard to guess who did the DDoS (hint - look what happened to Demonoid)
